Due South Brewing Goin' Deep for Trench Day 2017

It's the middle of January, and there's nothing like an Imperial Stout to warm things up. But, let's make that a Gold Medal-winning Imperial Stout, with its own release day fest in South Florida. Add in some additional stellar brews from the house brewery and a few brewery friends from around the state. Put that all together, and you have "Trench Day" 2017, brought to you by Due South Brewing Co.

What a coincidence.... look at that.

On January 21, Due South celebrates the annual release of its Mariana Trench® Imperial Stout, inspired by the deepest part of the world's oceans in the Western Pacific. (In case you're wondering, the Mariana Trench measures to a depth of over 36,000 feet.) Due South earned a Gold Medal at the 2014 Best Florida Beer Championships for this stout, which features chocolate malts and roasted barley, along with flaked oats, cocoa and Madagascar Vanilla beans -- resulting in a deep, rich beer that captures the dark essence of the namesake. (Kinda makes you want one right about now, doesn't it? And, yes, this writer has enjoyed the stout a time or two.)

"Trench Day" 2017 happens Saturday, January 21, from 3-6pm at the Due South brewery in Boynton Beach. Tickets ($50 each) are again limited to 300 attendees "to maintain the ambiance of the event" says Doug Fairall, Due South Brand Marketing Manager. The fest offers attendees unlimited samples of a number of new and unique beers from Due South and additional Florida breweries. In addition to the 2017 Mariana Trench Imperial Stout, attendees can also enjoy the 2016 version, as well as rum- and bourbon barrel-aged varieties, and a "cookies and cream" treatment (Hello). The tap list is pretty deep, too. Take a look at the current beer list here. Each ticket also includes one bottle of 2017 Mariana Trench. Vintage and cellared versions will be available for purchase. Tickets for Trench Day are available here.

Well, I didn't get Mariana Trench on my last visit
to Due South, but I did get a photo with the poster
(and one of my favorite Due South beers)
Due South Brewing operates a 15-barrel brewhouse at its Boynton Beach location. The main tap room shares space next to the brewing equipment within the 15,000 square foot warehouse facility, along with a separate, climate-controlled tap room. Due South has garnered a number of medals for its beers, including three Best Florida Beer Championship awards for its "Category 5" Imperial IPA, which took Gold in the Imperial IPA category in 2014, along with a 2nd Runner Up for Best in Show that year. Currently, the brewery is undergoing expansion.

It's always a good time for a good stout in this writer's opinion! But .... Winter in South Florida? Once-a-year release of an award-winning Imperial Stout? Sounds pretty good.

Due South Brewing is located at 2900 High Ridge Rd., Boynton Beach (Exit 59, Gateway Blvd. from I-95). The tap room is open six days a week, at noon each day (closed on Mondays). Due South also cans a number of its beers, which are available at retail locations around the state and in the tap room.

Things are heating up in South Florida in more ways than one, with South Florida Beer Week on the way next week (but .... that's another story).

Keep enjoying Florida beer, and I'll see you around a beer ... in Florida Somewhere.

Cheers!

Til next time,

Linda
