FLORIDA BREWERIES NET MEDALS IN SECOND ANNUAL "CAN CAN AWARDS" COMPETITION

Nashville, TN:  Four Florida breweries earned medals in the Second Annual Can Can Awards, a beer competition devoted to beers packaged in cans.  Registration opened in February and closed May 11. All entries were sent to the competition center just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Winners were recently announced.

Beer industry professionals conducted blind judging in 34 specific categories of beer styles. Brewers worldwide submitted over 400 beers for judging in the BJCP-sanctioned event.  Judging spanned a five-day period near Nashville and Atlanta, with 24 judges from across the Southeast grading and critiquing the entries. Of those, five judges are professional brewers, and ten hold BJCP certifications of "Recognized" or higher. A beer score of at least 30 out of 50 was required to receive a medal. The Can Can Awards advocates for the canning of beer, considering quality of beer, effects on the environment, and convenience of cans for consumers.

The Florida breweries earning medals are:

American Style Pale Ale:
Silver: MIA Beer Co. (Miami), Mega Mix
Bronze: Due South Brewing (Boynton Beach), Citrafied

Brown Ale:
Gold: Hourglass Brewing (Longwood), Brown Beer, Brown Beer, What Do You See?

Stout:
Bronze: 3 Daughters Brewing (St. Pete), Stern Line Oatmeal Stout

Belgian Style Tripel:
Gold: MIA Beer Co. (Miami), Tourist Trappe

Imperial IPA:
Silver: Due South Brewing (Boynton Beach), Category 5

Belgian Style Witbier:
Bronze (tie): Hourglass Brewing (Longwood), Honeybell Wit
