Blues, Brews & BBQ at Florida Theatre, Jax: Eat, Drink, & Groove ... and Repeat!

It was tough to decide what to do first: get a craft beer from one of the local Jacksonville breweries or delve right into some saucy, lip-smackin' barbecue! Jacksonville's historic Florida Theatre hosted one tasty event last night at its annual Blues, Brews & BBQ fundraiser. The night featured seven local Jacksonville breweries and brewpubs, alongside six barbecue joints, with the sounds of smooth blues coming from the main stage. It was a night of sensory delight!

Located on the first floor were Engine 15 Brewing, Veterans United Craft Brewery, Intuition Ale Works, 4 Rivers Smokehouse, Mojo No. 4, and Gilbert's Social. Upstairs on the level two were Bold City Brewery, Wicked Barley Brewing, Seven Bridges Grille & Brewery, River City Brewing, The Bearded Pig, Butt Hutt, and Monroe's Smokehouse & BBQ. Music was provided by Smokestack and The Snacks Blues Band.

(Caution: You might get hungry and thirsty .....)

Rain cleared up just in time!

After a first stop at the Engine 15 Brewing table, armed with a beer and an ample supply of napkins in hand, this writer made her way to the barbecue tables. And, that was pretty much the schedule of the night: beer, barbecue, repeat, repeat! Each brewery offered between 2-4 beers for sampling, and the barbecue vendors generally offered one or two main dishes with sides.

First stop at Engine 15 Brewing.
Hey, there, Sean and Jodie!
Hmmm, decisions, decisions. And, check out that pose!
First on the food front was a brisket sandwich from Mojo's. Followed by a Frito Pie (in a Frito bag wrapper) from The Bearded Pig.

Q with a view: brisket sandwich and a side of mac n cheese
Brewpub Seven Bridges poured a Brown Ale (sweet, nutty) and its new Good Morning Pale Ale, made with Florida honey, oats and melon hops. Two solid beers.

The Florida Theatre is an ornate building, and it provided an elegant background:

Upstairs, downstairs, or both!
Wicked Barley Brewing crew served Brierwood Brown Ale, Hopeless Romantic Session Belgian Ale, and a Pumpkin Quad (8 ABV, fall spices in a substantive beer; not your "typical" pumpkin beer).

Always a good time getting a little Wicked!
Meanwhile, on the music stage, the live music played...

Repeat....

Beef Brisket and Chicken Wing from Monroe's: Mmm-hmm.
Take your pick: Kentucky Bourbon or
Raspberry Wheat from River City Brewing.
I went with the Raspberry Wheat:
Complementary fruit and well-balanced flavor.

And, hey, its Mom, Kevin and Big John from
Bold City Brewery!
Yeah, I had just stopped at Bold City Downtown for
two of the new beers there!
Mark from Intuition Ale Works with a couple of
local beer favorites: Jon Boat and I-10
Topher from Veterans United poured a few core beers,
following the brewery's anniversary last week
A few facts you might not know about the Florida Theatre:

What a night of barbecue, beer and tunes!

It was an all-around jammin' evening!

If you haven't visited the Florida Theatre for a show, be sure to check the events schedule. There's not a bad seat in the house, and it's a cozy venue with ornate architecture. The Theatre is located at 128 E. Forsyth Street in downtown Jacksonville.

It was another saucy time at this year's Blues, Brews & BBQ! Well done, Florida Theatre!

Be sure to keep your eyes right here on the brewnymph.com events pages for upcoming events happening around the Jax metro area, as well as throughout Florida! Thanks for reading!

Cheers,

Til next time,

Linda
