JACKSONVILLE BREWERY-IN-PLANNING LEGACY ALE WORKS MOVES THROUGH RE-ZONING APPROVAL

June 28, 2018, Jacksonville, FL:

Further to social media posts earlier this week, Jacksonville brewery-in-planning Legacy Ale Works announced today via formal statement that it obtained re-zoning approval from the City Council by a  15-0 vote this past Tuesday evening.

In early March, the new brewery announced that after months of searching, it had signed a lease at 14965 Old St. Augustine Rd., Suite 129, Jacksonville. The space is located at the corner of US 1 and Old St. Augustine Rd. in the Bartram Park area.

Now that the zoning process is behind them, brewery owners Matt and Liz Jacobs will begin construction on the 3300sf space that will be home to the brewery and tap room. "We are excited about the next steps in our journey," said Liz Jacobs. "Our equipment has been delivered, and our plans will be ready to submit to the city for review and approval sometime next week."

Legacy Ale Works intends to bring its "easy drinking" beers to its new tap room on the south end of Jacksonville, just north of the St. Johns County/Duval County line. While "selecting this location was very important to us," said owner Matt Jacobs, he added that the new brewery aims "to serve an area of Jacksonville that does not currently have many craft beer options. The response we have received from the community so far has been very encouraging."

Matt and Liz Jacobs have offered samples of the house-brewed beers at appearances around the Jacksonville area, beginning last summer at Beer:30 San Marco. They also poured their beers at Jacksonville PorchFest last November, at Riverside Craft Beer Fest in February, and twice at Hogtown Craft Beer Fest in Gainesville last year and earlier this year.

Legacy Ale Works will appear at Brewz Bartram Park, 14866 Old St. Augustine Rd., on Saturday, June 30, at 2pm, where they will pour  samples of their beers and meet and greet the public. This time, in addition to talking about their beer, they will now be able to discuss their new location and construction plans.

With their 3.5-barrel brewhouse, the new brewery will offer a wide variety of beer, from light lagers and pilsners, to hoppy IPAs, porters, and stouts, in order to "appeal to all different tastes and preferences." In addition to beer, the tap room will also serve wine and non-alcoholic craft sodas for non-beer drinkers.

Legacy Ale Works plans an early Fall 2018 opening, with an estimated 8-12 week construction timeframe.

Congratulations to Legacy Ale Works, and stay tuned for more progress updates throughout the summer!

Cheers,

TAMPA BAY BREWING CO. ANNOUNCES REFRESHED LOGO, BRANDING AND NEW LOOK FOR CANS AHEAD OF TAMPA BAY BEER WEEK; ANNOUNCES "HOP SILO" SERIES

February 28, 2018, Tampa FL:

Tampa Bay Brewing Co. has announced a refreshed logo and branding, along with a new look for its cans.

"Like most mature organizations, our brand identity has slowly morphed over time and was due for a more significant refresh to better reflect our spirit and uncorporate culture," said Managing Partner David Doble in a statement released by the brewery. "Furthermore, both internally and on the street, people have been referring to us as TBBC for years ... This was a rare opportunity to embrace the community-given nickname in a manner that was not confusing to our long-standing customers."

West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault: A Winning Recipe

February 18, 2018:  No matter how you mix, blend, brew, slice, dice, or pour it, based on a recent visit, West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault has created a winning recipe!

The brewery, one of Palm Beach County's newest, opened in mid-December 2017. A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Celebration takes place on February 19 at 5:30pm.

Situated in downtown West Palm Beach on Evernia Street, the venue is the creation of West Palm Beach attorney John Pankauski. With a passion for wine, along with ownership of a Napa Valley vineyard, and a private label wine collection, Pankauski turned his attention to craft beer and set out to design a place where craft beer and fine wines could harmonize under one roof. With those elements in mind, he brought in Head Brewer Joel Kodner and Chef Andrew Castardi to lead the brewing and kitchen operations, respectively. Add in experienced General Manager Bruce Edel to the mix, and the new craft brewery has the ingredients for a unique neighborhood establishment.

Game On! Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival was a Winner

January 31, 2018:  With baseball season right around the turn of the calendar page, and as spring training gets underway in South Florida, the 12th Annual Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival on Saturday, January 27, was a game-winner!

Once again, the pavilion grounds of Roger Dean Stadium at the Town Center in the Abacoa community of Jupiter played host to the South Florida beerfest with over 50 breweries and more than 175 craft beers in the lineup.

Preceding the beerfest was the Ninth Annual Field of Beers brewery and chef food pairing event on Friday night, held inside the field. As in years past, tickets to Field of Beers sold out almost as fast as they went on sale in December (usually pretty close to immediately). The event was named the fourth best beer festival in the nation in a USA Today Readers' Choice poll in 2016.

WALKING TREE BREWERY, VERO BEACH, ANNOUNCES DISTRIBUTION TO METRO JACKSONVILLE AREA IN FEBRUARY

 January 26, 2018,
Vero Beach, FL:

Award-winning Florida brewery Walking Tree Brewery has announced that it will begin distribution in the greater Jacksonville area in February 2018.

[Ed Note, 2/27/ 2018: The area Launch Events have been announced, beginning in St. Augustine on February 28, then in Jacksonville March 1, and Fernandina Beach March 2. See the "Tap This" page on this site for details.]

The brewery has partnered with Jacksonville-based Champion Brands to bring the Walking Tree Brewery beers to the markets of Duval, Nassau, Clay, Putnam, Baker and St. Johns counties. “Walking Tree has a reputation for making great beer that precedes their arrival to the Northeast Florida market.  We’re fortunate to partner with such an awesome group of people as we continue to grow craft beer in our area," said Earl Sutton, Champion Brands Off-Premise Craft Brands Manager in a statement released by the brewery.  "Between the shared values of our companies and the unique offerings for our market, we can’t wait to get these beers on tap around town.”

Heck Yeah, Haze and Barrels: Southern Swells Brewing, Jax Beach, Turns One, January 27

January 24, 2018:  Southern Swells Brewing in Jacksonville Beach rolls into its First Anniversary on Saturday, January 27 at noon, with six new beers in can and bottle releases brewed especially for the occasion. While they brew a variety of different beer styles, co-founders Corey Adams and Jay Varney have stormed onto the Jax craft beer landscape with their hazy New England-style beers and unusual beer names.

Word of the new brewery surfaced via social media in April 2016, taking the local area by surprise. The following January, the brewery opened with guest taps while the house beers were still in the works. Almost a year to the day of the initial brewery announcement, eight house beers made their way onto the taps. "We were just hoping to put out a few good beers to start," said Corey in an interview. "It's been incredible that it's been a year."

Due South Brewing Trench Day 2018: A Voyage Through Renovations and Dark Brews

Mariana Trench® Imperial Stout 2018
January 23, 2018: In the Western Pacific Ocean lies the deepest part of the world's oceans, the "Mariana Trench," reaching a depth of over 36,000 feet. Inspired by that depth and darkness, Due South Brewing Co. brews its Mariana Trench® Imperial Stout only once each year. And, what better way to celebrate the award-winning beer than by hosting an annual "Trench Day!"

On Saturday, January 20, Due South Brewing released its 2018 version of the beer at its fourth annual Trench Day beerfest. Held onsite at the brewery, the beerfest is an "intimate" gathering of around 300. Not only does this beerfest take place indoors so that weather is not an issue, the limited number of tickets provides attendees with an enjoyable experience with plenty of options for seating, standing or moving around -- and, without long beer lines!

January 18, 2018, Tampa FL:

On the heels of a new logo announced this past November, Cigar City Brewing has introduced a "refreshed look" for all of its packaging, including a new Jai Alai IPA 12-pack. In a statement released today, CCB Creative Manager Tiffany Cox explained that "[b]y refreshing, we were not looking to reinvent the wheel, but instead optimize it and make it work more efficiently. We had a lot of successful elements in the previous designs but lacked overall harmony. Our creative goal was to make these new designs feel like a natural evolution of their predecessor, for a look that definitively screams Cigar City Brewing."

From 1 to 10,000: Southwest Florida Beer Geek Goes Uber on Untappd

January 14, 2018:
It began with a Sam Adams Zeus IPA at 4:12pm on May 7, 2011. It made the Epic halfway point with a Copperhead Brewery Bourbon Barrel Black Venom with Cocoa Nibs (Batch #001) on September 9, 2015. It reached an Uber proportion on January 13, 2018, just after 6pm, with Just The Beginning Russian Imperial Stout at Bury Me Brewing, in Fort Myers, Florida.

If you're a fan of the Untappd beer check-in app, you already know that we're talking about a trek toward a rare and prized status of checking in 10,000 unique beers on the popular beer tracking system. Southwest Florida beer geek Ricky Potts did just that on January 13, 2018. Not only did his check-in unlock the Uber Badge, but he did it with a beer that he and Bury Me Brewing Brewmaster/Co-Owner Bill Vaughn brewed in October especially for the occasion.

The party hats, noisemakers, holiday decorations, and Santa, reindeer and elves have come and gone, and here we are with another New Year and another January. It might not mean flip flops and bare toes these days with the cold wave that's descended on the Sunshine State, but January does mean the start of a new Beerfest Season in Florida! Snap up those tickets, and hold on to your souvenir glasses, because there's a beerfest (or two) almost every weekend from now through April. No Sun? No Rain! No Problem: Florida Brewers Guild Warmed It Up at Barrel-Aged, Sour & Cider Fest, Jax

December 14, 2017:
Holiday music on the radio while travelling north on I-95. Gray skies. A temperature reading of 48° at 1pm at Intuition Ale Works. Non-tropical breezes skirting over the river. Aromas from the coffee manufacturer a block away. Santa could have been lurking in these un-Florida-like holiday conditions. What's that about bourbon, whiskey, and staying warm? The Florida Brewers Guild hosted its third annual Barrel-Aged, Sour & Cider Fest in the backlot at Intuition Ale Works in Jacksonville on Saturday, December 9, under cloudy skies in a climate that could have evoked an image of a St. Bernard with a barrel.

BOG BREWING, ST. AUGUSTINE, SET FOR SECOND BOTTLE RELEASE DECEMBER 16

December 10, 2017

St. Augustine, FL:

Seven days after making its inaugural beerfest appearance at the Florida Brewers Guild ("FBG") Barrel-Aged, Sour & Cider Fest, Bog Brewing Company is set for its second bottle release on December 16, at its tap room in St. Augustine.

Bog Brewing will release its "Light in the Dark" Belgian Tripel, aged in bourbon barrels from St. Augustine Distillery. The brewery introduced its new barrel-aged beer at the FBG Fest in Jacksonville on December 9. In a statement, the brewery described the beer as having "a golden color and vibrant bourbon aromas, with a warming finish," at 9.9 ABV.  "I love the interaction of wood and beer, because it creates flavors and nuances that you can't get from a stainless steel tank," said Steve Mendoza, co-owner and head brewer. Aging the beer in St. Augustine Distillery's bourbon barrels is a "match made in heaven," and "it will only get better with age."
