January 10, 2018, Oakland Park, FL:  Funky Buddha Brewery has announced a revamped distribution schedule for 2018, along with revealing new packaging and new beers to its lineup.

FLORIDA BREWERIES EARN MEDALS AT 2017 GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL

DENVER, CO:   The nation's premier beer festival and competition event, Great American Beer Festival (GABF), took place October 5-7, 2017 at the Colorado Convention Center. Each year, tens of thousands of beer enthusiasts attend the three-day festival to sample beers from across the country. This year, attendance was estimated at 60,000, according to figures released from the Brewers Association. More than 800 breweries served an estimated 3900 beers, and the event was staffed with over 4300 volunteers.

 August 10, 2017: Rumors had been swirling for months that Funky Buddha Brewery had been sold to one of the large beer "big boys." When the announcement was made earlier today that the South Florida brewery had been sold to Constellation Brands, the purchaser was likely a surprise to most.

We Got Funky: Maple Bacon Coffee Porter Day 2016 at Funky Buddha Brewery

I didn't attend the prior two Maple Bacon Coffee Porter Day festivals hosted by Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park.  Last year (2015), the event fell about a week before an already-scheduled weekend trip for a concert in Fort Lauderdale. I had tracked the release dates of the prized MBCP around Lauderdale, and I was thrilled to find it on tap at American Social.  By the way, if you haven't figured it out yet, not only does this beer have its own Day, it has its own acronym (MBCP; it IS a mouthful). 

Back Again at Palm Beach Summer Beer Fest!

Three-for-three: One of my favorite places in Florida to visit, and one of my favorite beerfests!  The 3rd Annual Palm Beach Summer Beer Fest happened this past weekend (July 25) at the South Florida Fairgrounds and Expo Center in West Palm Beach. And, yes, this was my third year attending! There's a lot to like about this fest, but the big draw is that it's held indoors inside the Expo Center (what heat, what rain?).  The scene was similar to last year's fest: here's my 2014 blog post.

On The Road to Key West Brewfest

So, we loaded up the SUV and headed South on I-95 enroute to Key West.  But, we had to make some stops along the way, of course......

Got a Little Funky
First up, the new Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park FL. A number of other writers attended the Grand Opening in June and told all of us what a great place this is.  I happened to be at the original lounge the week before (coming back from the Keys at that time). So, the new brewery was a must-see! Got here around 5pm or so, and there was a nice crowd, and by the time we left, they were streaming in.  Plenty of places to sit and talk. In a nutshell, yeah, it's a cool place, the beer is good, and I definitely plan on getting back over here again.
